Friend of the Sea, the global certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, has recognized Carlson for its commitment toward sustainability in the production of omega-3 products. Accordingly, Carlson can now display the Friend of the Sea label on its high-quality fish oil products.
Carlson, a pioneer of omega-3s in the American market since the early 1980s, is now a leader in the use of responsibly sourced, earth-friendly fish oils, harvested through sustainable fishing practices closely monitored to protect the environment.
A proudly family-owned company since its creation in 1965, Carlson specializes in the production of high-quality vitamins, minerals, fish oils, and other nutritional supplements.
Carlson omega-3s are made from fish wild-caught in their natural habitat through traditional fishing methods and low-impact fisheries. The source species are also reliably sustainable. Therefore, the new Friend of the Sea certification confirms the company’s engagement with environmentally respectful practices.
“Carlson is proud to partner with Friend of the Sea, an organization whose mission aligns with ours in respecting and protecting our oceans and waterways,” said Carlson President Carilyn Anderson. “We are committed to producing high-quality omega-3 products while prioritizing sustainability”.
“The omega-3 market is expected to reach a total worth of USD 9 billion by 2026. This extraordinary growth should be accompanied by sustainability measures such as the ones implemented by Carlson. We are very pleased to be working with them”, said Paolo Bray, Friend of the Sea Founder and Director.
Friend of the Sea’s mission is to protect aquatic resources by promoting sustainable fishing, aquaculture, nutraceutical products, dolphin and whale watching, ornamental fish trade, and shipping.
Friend of the Sea omega-3 producers verify their suppliers are listed as approved and therefore implement sustainable fishing practices. In this way, they can provide a third-party assurance to consumers worldwide. The criteria for sustainable nutraceutical products require well-managed sources of fish oil and fishmeal ingredients, traceability, social accountability.
