Chinese company Qingdao Kangjing Marine Biotechnology obtains Friend of the Sea certification for krill oil
5 March 2018 – Chinese producer Qingdao Kangjing Marine Biotechnology obtains Friend of the Sea’s certification for its krill oil sourced from Euphausia suberba caught in the Southern Ocean (FAO Area 48, Atlantic, Antarctic) by pelagic trawl.
The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), through its Working group on Ecosystem Monitoring and Management (WG-EMM), is in charge of assessing the status of krill and dependent populations. According to the last CCAMLR report, although the stock does not result overexploited and overfished, a precautionary approach is applied through the quota management system.
Located in the city of Jiaozhou, in the Shandong Province, Kangjing is an integrated high-tech enterprise, which includes research, development, production and import-export business worldwide. Since 2010, it has begun the exploration and development of Antarctic krill resources developed the first Antarctic krill oil industry park in China. Kangjing also obtained GMP, Haccp, FSSC2200, Halal certifications, as well as FDA and European Union (EU) Fish & Fishery Products Export Certificate. Moreover, is the only producer that got EU Novel Food in China.

Friend of the Sea’s standard for sustainable fish feed, fish meal, fish oil and Omega-3 certifies that the oil originates only from fisheries in line with Friend of the Sea’s sustainable fishing requirements and that a full traceability system is in place throughout the supply chain, from fisheries to manufacturing facilities, all the way to the finished product.
