Friend of the Sea launches “Sustainable Friends” awareness Festival across famous Mediterranean holiday locations
Friend of the Sea launches this year’s “Posidonia Sustainable Friends Festival”, which will take place across key Mediterranean locations in Italy and Spain.
Established in 2008, the Festival brings together art, culture and environment, in order to support sustainable development initiatives, share innovative solutions to international environmental issues and raise awareness among the general public. The event participants, including institutions, NGOs and private companies will contribute to the organization of a plethora of activities, such as exhibitions, workshops and contests.
In addition, the Festival will be the ideal opportunity to discover Sustainable Friends, an interactive platform launched earlier this year thanks to the common efforts of Friend of the Sea and Friend of the Earth. In a nutshell, the platform is an innovative non-profit space where people and companies can launch sustainable initiatives and get involved in conservation projects worldwide.
“We are enthusiastic about moving forward with our communications efforts directed to consumers,” says Paolo Bray, Founder and Director of Friend of the Sea. “Posidonia Sustainable Friends Festival is an ideal moment to share our activities and values with the international audience.”
The Festival will start in Sitges, Spain from June 8-12, 2016, and will then move to Vigo, Spain, from July 15-16, 2016. The final stop of the Festival will be Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, from September 1-4, 2016.

Friend of the Sea
Friend of the Sea is an international certification program for products from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Over 500 companies in more than 50 countries have relied on Friend of the Sea to assess the sustainability of their seafood origins. Audits, based on best and most updated available scientific data, are run by accredited independent certification bodies.
Friend of the Earth
Friend of the Earth is a non-profit project for the certification of products from sustainable agriculture and farming. Coming from the positive experience of the Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, Friend of the Earth is rapidly growing as the leading international label for sustainable agriculture production. Friend of the Earth certification requirements are based on FAO’s SAFA guidelines for sustainable agriculture and farming. Certified production sites cannot be developed on critical habitats and producers must have a social and environmental management system in place, be compliant with national environmental laws, conserve existing ecosystems and reduce their impacts to a sustainable level.
Sustainable Friends, a common project of Friend of the Sea and Friend of the Earth, connects people, organizations, schools, companies and activities to help the environment. Sustainable Friends is a non-profit space where you can discover what people are doing to help the environment around the world and find support for your conservation projects or provide help to others, share information and ideas.
