Pevasa renews Friend of the Sea Certification for the 5th time

Global Sustainable Fishing Company – Pevasa Group, has renewed its Friend of the Sea Sustainable Fishing Certification initially obtained in the year 2009.

For 60 years, Pevasa has been dedicated to the extraction and supply of tropical tunas of the highest quality to the global canning and food industry. Pevasa Group supplies sustainably sourced frozen whole tuna, to over 30 countries across 4 continents.  Pesquería Vasco-Montañesa (PEVASA) is committed to practicing responsible fishing in strict compliance with the rules that regulate the sector.

The Friend of the Sea Sustainable Fishing Certification is the only sustainable fisheries certification process recognised and supervised globally by a National Accreditation Body, it certifies Pevasa’s sustainable fishing in the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

We consider that more and more companies are jumping on board the sustainable train; and without doubt Friend of the Sea is a renowned and recognized sustainable standard for the fishing industry. We first certified our activity with Friend of the Sea back in 2009, and we have kept this certification since then. Currently, our customers are requiring proof that they are buying real wild sustainably caught tuna, and we trust that certifications such as Friend of the Sea help us to achieve this objective. The Sustainable Fishing Certification enables us prove that we are practicing responsible fishing with sustainable management, based on the implementation of good practices.

Pevasa’s sustainably sourced frozen whole tuna for the canning and food industry is 100% natural, 100% wild, 100% healthy and tasty.

The purse seine industry is committed to maintaining its activity to guarantee the health of the stocks for the future. As a result, Pevasa is an active member of two different fisheries improvement projects, one in the Atlantic Ocean and another in the Indian Ocean. We are also actively engaged in certifying our activity against third party standards that demonstrate our commitment is real. Additionally, our departments and personnel on board are working on the development of improved fishing practices, which comply with the established requirements set by regulatory authorities.

The Sustainable Fishing Certification is obtained after a rigorous audit process carried out by an external and independent auditor, who has verified Pevasa’s compliance with the standards set by Friend of the Sea.
