Dutch government grants financial support to companies applying for FoS audit

The Dutch Government has granted financial support to a group of 9 Dutch flatfish fishing vessels to have their fishing method assessed for Friend of the Sea certification.

The Dutch Government’s decision to grant financial support of Friend of the Sea audits came following benchmarking by the LEI Institute of several eco-labels to assess compliance with the FAO guidelines for Eco-labeling. The Dutch Government fully promotes fishermen and sustainable catch.

Executive Director of Friend of the Sea, Paolo Bray adds, “I am pleased the Dutch Government supports the importance of Eco-labeling. I hope other governments start taking similar initiatives as this helps smaller scale producers apply for Friend of the Sea certification.”
