Sturgeon ConservationProject

In recent decades, river anthropisation, pollution and illegal fishing have threatened the existence of sturgeon worldwide. Many species of sturgeons are in critical danger of extinction.

In partnership with the Federazione Italiana Pesca Sportiva e Attività Subacquee (FIPSAS), Friend of the Sea supports a project to recover the Adriatic Sturgeon from extinction.

Over 15,000 sturgeons microchipped by Storione Ticino, a Friend of the Sea certified caviar company,  have been introduced into the main rivers of Northern Italy. Sighting reports of juvenile sturgeons born in the wild confirm the project success.
