Gloria Maris seabream, seabass and meagre farmed in Corsica certified sustainable

Gloria Maris farming plants has positively undergone certification audit against Friend of the Sea strict sustainability standard for aquaculture production. Meagre (Argyrosomus regius), European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) are now carrying Friend of the Sea seal of approval.

Gloria Maris is a French aquaculture farm created in 1992.  The 3 plants are located in the island of Corse, within the bay of Ajaccio and Campomoro. The farming sites are part of a national park, thus the fish is raised in a pristine and healthy environment.

Gloria Maris farm was audited by an international certification body and was found to be compliant with Friend of the Sea requirements. The potential environmental impacts are managed and controlled properly, monitoring water parameters, preventing impact on surrounding ecosystem, managing waste appropriately. The fish escapes prevention system has been improved and the energy management system was found to be compliant after implementation of Friend of the Sea required corrective actions.

A diver checks the cages several times per week for the maintenance of the nets and anchors as well as to check fish health.

Philippe RIERA Gloria Maris’ President confirms “in gaining Friend of the Sea prominent certification we can highlight the efforts made in looking after our fish and the measures undertaken to maintain strict sustainable management practices.”
