Nutribiótica, a Spanish company specialising in medical nutrition, probiotics and high-quality food supplements, has obtained Friend of the Sea® certification for its premium Omega-3 product, Kicardio. The certification recognises the company’s commitment to responsible sourcing and the protection of marine ecosystems.
Friend of the Sea® is an internationally recognised standard for products derived from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. The certification confirms that the marine ingredients used in Kicardio originate from well-managed sources, with no impact on the seabed and no involvement of overexploited or IUCN Red-listed species. The process included an independent audit to verify full compliance with the scheme’s environmental and social criteria.
In addition to environmental safeguards, Nutribiótica demonstrated strong social responsibility throughout its supply chain, including fair labour practices, traceability of raw materials and measures to reduce its carbon footprint. Compliance with Friend of the Sea® standards also helps prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing from entering the pharmaceutical‑grade Omega‑3 market.
“Sustainability is a core element of our business strategy,” said Raquel Neira, CEO of Nutribiótica. “This certification reinforces our commitment to transparency and responsible sourcing, while strengthening the confidence of healthcare professionals and consumers in our products.”
Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea®, welcomed the certification: “Nutribiótica’s approach demonstrates how the supplement industry can combine scientific excellence with the protection of marine biodiversity.”
The Friend of the Sea® label adds further value to Nutribiótica’s portfolio, supporting the positioning of the Kicardio range in a market increasingly focused on sustainability, quality and traceability. The product line is designed to support cardiovascular and cognitive health, in line with the company’s broader focus on microbiota‑based therapies and rigorous raw‑material selection.
With global demand for high‑purity Omega‑3 continuing to grow, Nutribiótica reaffirms its commitment to improving human health while respecting the planet’s natural resources.
