Spanish seafood organization earns new certification for sustainability from Friend of the Sea

Friend of the Sea, the leading global authority and certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, has certified Spain’s Organización de Productores de Pesca Fresca del Puerto de A Coruña. The Organization can now to display the Friend of the Sea eco-label on its products.

 “We are so pleased that Organización de Productores de Pesca Fresca del Puerto de A Coruña has sought, and earned, our certification for sustainability,” said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “It is an impressive achievement, given the diversity of their catches and scope of their organization.”

Organización de Productores de Pesca Fresca del Puerto de A Coruña was founded in 1986. The organization operates out of port of A Coruña in Spain’s province of A Coruña. Its 10 ships operate in fishing grounds in EU waters, and Spanish coast. Its ships concentrate on hake, monkfish and Norway lobster. The Organization makes annual catch plans, as a way to adapt to market forces as well as to stay within EU regulations.
