Friend of the Sea announces certification of European perches (perca fluviatilis) by Zao Fishery Enterprise, coming from the Russian Peipus, Ladoga and Bratskoye lakes. The perches are then processed and distributed by Bernard Wolf SA.
The certified perches originate from approved net and gill nets fishing vessels. Nets and boat engines do not impact the lake environment and the lakebed. Fishery stocks are considered healthy and bycatch is limited to 0,5%/1%; non target specimens accidentally caught are returned back to the water alive. The Federal Fishery Agency provides fishing permissions to the fleets specifying species, areas, periods, quantities and allowed gears including net size depending on the specie. The Fishery complies with TAC, established by the local authority, and net size. Fishing is not allowed in certain areas and periods to prevent bycatch of endangered species.
Waste management system was found to be compliant after having put in practice FOS required corrective actions.
Bernard Wolf SA is a Swiss company handling and trading lake fish for three generations. The company based in Chevroux, on the Neuchatel Lake, provides Swiss big retailers with a variety of fresh fish.
