Dutch Smit & zoon achieves Friend of the Sea certification for Omega–3

Smit & zoon

Smit & zoon – Dutch company specialized in processing of Omega – 3 fish oils – has recently obtained Friend of the Sea certification for Omega – 3 products originating from not overexploited and sustainably fished and managed stocks of a variety of species, including anchovies, chub, mackerel, salmon and sardines.

Smit & zoon’s Omega – 3 functional oils are sourced from fresh fish caught by Friend of the Sea approved fleets.

An efficient traceability system is also in place to ensure the compliance with all certification requirements. In addition to assigning a unique identification number to each product, Smit & zoon also provides a detailed information on its origin.

“Smit & zoon has implemented policies that respect the environment and promote sustainable development,” says Jeroen van der Pol, General Manager, Functional Oils at Smit & zoon. “We are particularly proud of the Friend of the Sea certification, as it provides an international third party confirmation of our full engagement to sustainability.”
