Chinese common squid is fished and processed by Friend of the Sea certified supplier Toba Surimi Industries, based in Indonesia. Fishing occurs in Eastern Indian Ocean by means of traditional hand-lining, a selective fishing method that does not affect the seabed.
The fishing is carried out in compliance with the Marine Protected Areas regulation and the squid stocks are considered as being not over exploited nor over fished in that fishing area. Toba Surimi is compliant with Friend of the Sea strict environmental and social sustainability criteria and it does not bycatch any endangered species.
“Friend of the Sea certification sends a very clear message to our customers and suppliers regarding our commitment to sustainability,” explains Rosida Idriss, Founder and Technical Director of Rai Seafoods. “We are very proud to have achieved this recognition.”
