SGS Lanka is one of the most trusted third-party service providers for the fisheries industries in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Friend of the Sea, the global certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, congratulates SGS Lanka on obtaining accreditation by the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) to conduct Friend of the Sea’s audits. As a result, the company is the only certification body in Sri Lanka with full accreditation to perform Friend of the Sea audits for sustainable fishing and fleets.
SGS Lanka (Pvt) Limited is a subsidiary of SGS Global Group, the world’s leading testing, inspection, verification, testing, and certification company. Since its creation in 1995, SGS Lanka has become one of the most trusted one-stop service providers for the fisheries industries in both Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The company offers a complete range of services for exporters, importers, manufacturers, retailers, governments, and institutions, helping them become more sustainable by improving quality and productivity, reducing risk, verifying compliance, and increasing speed to market.
SGS Lanka is registered with Friend of the Sea to provide third-party certification for sustainable fishing and fleets. “The company has already accumulated experience and personnel has been thoroughly trained in carrying out audits under the Friend of the Sea’s guidelines”
Currently, it’s the only certification body in Sri Lanka with full accreditation for ISO/IEC 17065:2012 to conduct Friend of the Sea’s audits. This accreditation is granted by the Sri Lanka Board of Accreditation (SLAB) for wild sustainable fishing requirements and Friend of the Sea chain of custody requirements certification schemes.
“Receiving this accreditation from SLAB is a great achievement that makes us proud,” said an SGS Lanka spokesperson. “It allows us to strengthen our bond with Friend of the Sea as one of the most trusted third-party service providers in Sri Lanka and the surrounding region.”
Friend of the Sea certified products and services are subject to strict independent audits that verify environmental and social standards. Seafood certification is a voluntary process by which a third party guarantees that a product or service complies with specific requirements and certification standards. The procedure is based on a range of inspection activities carried out by a competent and recognized certification body.
“We salute SGS Lanka’s recognition which confirms that they work under the strictest, high-quality standards. Furthermore, it proves the soundness of the Friend of the Sea certification process,” said Paolo Bray, Founder and Director of Friend of the Sea.
