Ukrainian AFC obtains Friend of the Sea certification for Antarctic Krill

Ukrainian AFC

Ukrainian company AFC Prydunays’ka Niva has obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for Antarctic krill.

The company’s vessel “More Sodruzhestva” is a factory trawler, operating in the Antarctic section of the Atlantic Ocean. The captures are processed on board, thanks to the specialized krill harvesting and production equipment, immediately after fishing.

AFC has successfully complied with strict krill sustainability criteria which ensure that the stock is not overfished, the fishery is in compliance with the management measures and there is no bycatch of endangered species.

“Achieving the Friend of the Sea is a big step forward for our company,” says Vyacheslav Gettun, the captain of the vessel “More Sodruzhestva”. “We are very proud to receive a further confirmation of our commitment to sustainability.”
