Peruvian Inversiones Prisco’s canned anchovies obtain Friend of the Sea certification

Iprisco

The Peruvian fishing and processing company Inversiones Prisco has recently obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for its canned anchovy products. The company complies with all Friend of the Sea requirements and can now display the official seal of approval on its products.

Anchovies are caught in the Southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean by means of purse seine method. All Prisco’s supplying fleets operate in areas where the fish stock is not overfished and managed according to strict precautionary limits. Discard is also minimal and no IUCN red listed species is bycaught. In addition, the company’s fleet does not include any IUU fishing vessel.

Inversiones Prisco’s fleet is also actively engaged in the protection of endangered species, including turtles and sea lions. All vessels record sightings of those animals.

“Inversiones Prisco is strongly committed to sustainability,” comments Americo Solimano Navarro, Operations Manager at Inversiones Prisco. “For this reason, we are very proud to have achieved the Friend of the Sea international certification.”
