Krill meal by Antarctic Sea Fisheries is FoS certified from sustainable fisheries

Antarctic Sea Fisheries krill meal from Antarctic krill (Euphasia superba), is now carrying Friend of the Sea seal of approval. The Chilean company was found to meet Friend of the Sea certification requirements.

The Antarctic Krill is extracted from the convention area 48 (subareas: 48.1; 48.2; 48.3 and 48.4). Vessels operate neither in the Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) nor in the Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA) and fishing activities are performed 5-6 miles from the northern coast of the South Shetland Islands and 26 miles from the George Area. The fleet does not include IUU fishing vessels (Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated).

The resource is not over-exploited according to the maximum annual sustainable harvest, defined by CCAMLR (Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources).

The final product is labeled in order to ensure no product mixture occurs.

“We are very proud to be Friend of the Sea certified. It is a very important achievement and it proves the sustainable origin of our product and our full commitment with the long term sustainability of the krill fishery and with best practices in responsible fishing” explains Mr. Le Dantec of Antarctic Sea Fisheries.
