Leading distributor of shrimp and tuna meets high standards for preservation of the marine environment
Friend of the Sea, the preeminent certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, announced today that it has certified the Marpesca Group (Grupo Marpesca) for sustainable seafood production practices. Marpesca can now display the Friend of the Sea eco-label on its tuna, shrimp and other seafood products.

The Marpesca Group has been engaged in responsible fishing for over 60 years. The company is based in Panama, but coordinates fishing and distribution in Ecuador, the US and Spain. They own five tuna boats of more than 1000 tons each. Fishing activities take place in the Pacific Ocean. The company distributes tuna, sole, swordfish, sea bream and all kinds of prawns and shrimp.
The tuna industry is increasingly demanding that products from sustainable fishing processes. Aware of this, Grupo Marpesca has done the challenging work and made investments in incorporating new requirements, processes and certifications necessary to be at the forefront in terms of responsible and sustainable fishing.
