The Pula Aquarium will be awarded, on the 17th of June at the Pula Aquarium in Croatia, with the “Friend of the Sea Sustainable Aquaria Certification”.
The certificate confirms Pula Aquarium’s outstanding front line work in marine conservation.
The Aquarium Pula, launched by the biologist Dr Milena Mičić in 2000, is currently the largest aquarium in Croatia. It is well-known for its involvement in numerous ongoing conservation programmes, showing significant dedication to sea turtles’ and noble pen shells’ rescue and rehabilitation (more than 180 sea turtles have been rescued since 2001 and 10 noble pen shells have been saved from mass mortality since 2019).
On June 17th moreover, the celebration will be double! Following the Sustainable Aquaria Certification ceremony, participants will witness the release of Victoria, a young loggerhead turtle rescued and cured by the “Sea Turtle Rescue Center” staff since September 2021.
