Friend of the Sea supported major Italian tuna, salmon, mackerel and sardines producer AS DO MAR, who has promoted an important beaches clean up initiative in Italy. The project covered beaches of three major Italian National Nature Parks. The event was also a major opportunity to deploy an awareness campaign for respect of the environment and also sustainable seafood choices.
The cleaning up of the beaches was organized in the Delta del Po Park, the park of Italy’s longest river, and in two more Parks in Tuscany: Parco San Rossore and Parco della Maremma, well known also internationally for their beauty and biodiversity.
Over 20 km of beaches have been cleaned up by one hundred people, among which students and young boys and girls. Over 10 tons of waste have been collected.
This is the most recent of a number of conservation initiatives supported by Friend of the Sea. Other initiatives were aimed at the protection of albatross, marine mammals and the banning of sharkfins.
“We strongly believe that people have the power to change things: together we can all improve the world we’re living in” comments Paolo Bray, founder and director of Friend of the Sea.
