Tess Agro’s yellowfin tuna and swordfish pass traceability audit making Friend of the Sea leading sustainable seafood label in Sri Lanka

Tess Agro Limited passes the traceability audit for Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and Swordfish (Xiphias gladius). Tess Group is a diversified group of Sri Lankan companies engaged in engineering, deep sea fishing, export of marine products as well as export of agricultural produce. The Company is the largest exporter of tuna and agricultural produce from Sri Lanka to the European Market.

 
Tess uses the traditional multi-hook shortlinefishing method which is both sustainable and environmentally friendly. ItsartisanalSri Lankan fishing vessels are fully licensed to operate in the FAO 51 fishing zone.
 
Tess Group processing facilities which include Tropic Frozen Foods, also a Friend of the Sea Certified Company are ISO 22000 certified and fully compliant with the International Food Standards (IFS). Tess Agro are HACCP certified and operate in strict compliance to EU and USA food and safety regulations.
 
Mr Dilshan Fernando, the Director/CEO is fully satisfied, “Friend of the Seas’ traceability audit proves to our customers that no mixing occurs between sustainable Friend of the Sea certified yellowfin tuna and swordfish and other non certified products.”
 
Friend of the Sea is the only certification scheme which has deployed anInternational Monitoring Program to verify the Chain of Custodyof approved suppliers of Friend of the Sea products. Mr Paolo Bray, Executive Director of Friend of the Sea adds “There is a growing demand from consumers to understand provenance. Friend of the Sea’s international on site monitoring program is a valuable tool for consumers to confirm consumers that Tess’ yellowfin tuna and swordfish come from a fully sustainable fleet and they are not mixed with other origins.”
