(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/issues\/sustainable-seafood\/\">https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/issues\/sustainable-seafood\/<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">) <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u201cSustainable fisheries\u00a0certification must be based on strict minimum requirements or it will sooner or later encounter opposition of environmental organisations.\u00a0\u00a0Friend of the Sea is the only scheme which applies strict minimum requirements: not overexploited target stocks; maximum discard rate; no bycatch of threatened species; negligible impact\u00a0on the seabed.\u201d explains Dr Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u201cRetailers and producers should look for those seafood certification schemes adopting stricter criteria and taking into consideration also environmental organizations\u2019 opinions.\u201d continues Dr Bray \u201cFriend of the Sea, for example, requests tuna companies to be also Dolphin-Safe (<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dolphinsafetuna.org\/\"><span style=\"color: blue;\">www.dolphinsafetuna.org<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">)\u00a0approved by the Earth Island Institute. Furthermore none of Friend of the Sea currently certified products originates from species which Greenpeace requests to remove from sales immediately.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u201cIt has to be clear however\u201d concludes Dr Bray \u201cthat Friend of the Sea believes some of the\u00a0species indicated by Greenpeace\u00a0should\u00a0NOT be redlisted, given that s<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">ome stocks of these species\u00a0are not overexploited,\u00a0some fisheries are well managed and farming\u00a0or fishing methods can be respectful of the environment<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">.
