{"id":75846,"date":"2020-06-26T16:13:07","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T14:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/friendofthesea.org\/?p=75846"},"modified":"2021-10-22T17:01:02","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T15:01:02","slug":"signs-mou-ias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/friendofthesea.org\/it\/signs-mou-ias\/","title":{"rendered":"Friend of the Sea Signs MoU with Institution of Aquaculture Singapore for Promotion of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Goal is to work collaboratively toward responsible aquaculture development in Singapore<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Friend of the Sea has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institution of Aquaculture Singapore, in which the two organizations will work collaboratively toward responsible aquaculture development in Singapore. <a href=\"https:\/\/friendofthesea.org\/\">Friend of the Sea<\/a>, a project of the World Sustainability Organization that serves as the preeminent certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, will serve as the driving force behind the collaboration. It has a presence in more than 70 countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased to be working with the Institution of Aquaculture Singapore (IAS), focusing on the promotion of the aquaculture businesses in sustainable ways which align with our mission,\u201d said <strong>Paolo Bray, Founder and Director of Friend of the Sea<\/strong>. \u201cThis MoU is the first step in what we both envision as a long and fruitful partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IAS intends to bring the leading industry players in Singapore and beyond onto one platform for sustainability in aquaculture. Their goal is to enable future security for the food supply chain along with security through partnerships and collaborations. According to <strong>Amod Ashok Salgaonkar, one of the Friend of the Sea\u2019s Global Advisory Board Members<\/strong>, \u201cSingapore is now aspiring to increase its food self-sufficiency from less than 10% today (2019) to 30% by 2030, also known as \u201830-by-30\u2019 target. Fisheries and aquaculture can become one of the main contributors in maintaining food security of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jimmy Lim, President of the Institution of Aquaculture Singapore<\/strong>, expressed his thoughts on this occasion and said, \u201cThe Institution of Aquaculture Singapore (IAS) was founded in 2014 to promote the development of sustainable aquaculture in Singapore.
