According to both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/ResourcesForYou\/Consumers\/BuyingUsingMedicineSafely\/UnderstandingOver-the-CounterMedicines\/ucm239463.htm\">U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/growth\/sectors\/cosmetics\/products\/sunscreen_en\">EU regulation<\/a>, sunscreens marked as \u201c<em>water-resistant<\/em>\u201d can lose 50% of their sun protection factor after 40 minutes water bathing.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>Recent studies have shown <strong>Benzophenone-3 (BP-3; Oxybenzone)<\/strong>, an ingredient in sunscreen lotions and personal-care products that protects against the damaging effects of ultraviolet light, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00244-015-0227-7\">contributes to coral bleaching and reefs deformation<\/a><\/strong>, as it effects DNA and disrupts corals reproduction and growth. According to these studies, even small doses of Oxybenzone \u2013 about a drop in six-and-a-half Olympic swimming pools \u2013 damages coral.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>Although countries like Hawaii are trying to remedy this environmental disaster by creating a long-term \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dlnr.hawaii.gov\/dar\/files\/2017\/04\/Coral_Bleaching_Recovery_Plan_final.pdf\">Coral Bleaching Recovery Plan<\/a><\/strong>\u201d to prevent further damage and promote regrowth after specific events, it could be too late.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>In order to minimize the impact of sunscreens on the marine environment, Israeli company <strong>Nidaria Technologies<\/strong> has developed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.safe-sea.com\/\">Safe-Sea\u00ae sunscreen products line<\/a><\/strong>. Water resistance tests of Safe-Sea\u00ae by AMA Lab New York and Dermatest Australia revealed that <strong>97% of sun protection remains on the skin even after 80 minutes in the water<\/strong>.\u00a0 In vivo testing of fish and anemones behavior in water exposed to Safe-Sea\u00ae for 24 hours demonstrated that the sunscreen is safe to the aquatic organisms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><strong>Friend of the Sea<\/strong>, one of the major international certification scheme for sustainable seafood and aquaculture products, has recently decided to validate Nidaria\u2019s long-term commitment towards environmental sustainability by awarding <strong>Safe-Sea\u00ae <\/strong>as Friend of the Sea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>&#8220;I<em>n order to provide total protection, we developed sunscreen formulation with extreme water resistance, which does not leak nor dilutes in water even after prolonged water activities. All Safe-Sea ingredients are stored within the formula and do not dilute nor released into the water.
