Friend of the Sea announces the agreement with DESAD, the Turkish association of seafood processors, for the promotion of sustainable seafood certification and responsible consumption in Turkey.<\/span>

According to the FAO, total seafood production in Turkey reached 623,192 tonnes. While 25% only is represented by aquaculture, farmed seafood production has grown each year approximately 20% in the past decade.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe agreement with Friend of the Sea\u201d sais President Niyazi Onen \u201cconfirms DESAD\u2019s mission to promote sustainable production as well as companies and consumers environmental awareness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Friend of the Sea<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is an international non-profit certification scheme for products from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Certified products are fished from not overexploited or IUCN Red-listed stocks and with selective methods which do not impact the seabed. Those originate from aquaculture are reared with respect of critical habitat, with no use of anti-foulants, GMOs and growth hormones.<\/span><\/p>\n
