The main threats are human-driven: rising CO\u2082 levels, water pollution, overfishing, and coastal alteration.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most alarming phenomena is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.it\/speciale\/game-changer\/le-barriere-coralline-stanno-morendo-la-crisi-non-e-piu-invisibile.html\">coral bleaching<\/a>, caused by thermal stress and worsened by pollution and sedimentation, which since 2023 has already affected 84% of coral reefs.<\/p>\n<p>Corals are not only\u00a0<strong>essential for biodiversity<\/strong>, but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.it\/sbiancamento-dei-coralli-perche-rappresenta-una-minaccia-per-gli-oceani-e-per-l-umanita\">also a vital resource for people<\/a>: they protect coastlines from waves and storms, support fisheries and local economies, ensure food security, and contribute to the climate resilience of coastal communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cEmbrace the Sun, Protect the Sea\u201d: from sustainability to concrete action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the face of this global emergency, an initiative is taking shape that brings together Italian companies and international organizations to provide tangible support for coral conservation.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2022, through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/friendofthesea.org\/marine-conservation-projects-and-awareness\/save-the-corals\/\">\u201cSave the Corals\u201d<\/a>\u00a0project, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldsustainabilityfoundation.org\/en\">World Sustainability Foundation (WSF)<\/a>,\u00a0a foundation of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsogroup.org\/\">World Sustainability Organization (WSO)<\/a>,\u00a0has supported coral reef conservation and monitoring activities in the Gulf of Thailand, managed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atmec.org\/\">Aow Thai Marine Ecology Center (ATMEC)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lovewildlife.org\/\">Love Wildlife Foundation<\/a>.\u00a0Activities range from scientific research to coral restoration, from removing abandoned fishing gear to promoting the genetic diversity of reefs.<\/p>\n<p>Building on this experience, the new initiative\u00a0<strong>\u201cEmbrace the Sun, Protect the Sea\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0has been created to turn support for coral reefs into concrete action. The two Italian companies involved,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturalwave.it\/\">Naturalwave<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roncalliviaggi.it\/\">Roncalli Viaggi<\/a>, starting on\u00a0<strong>15 April 2026<\/strong>, will donate the funds collected to the World Sustainability Foundation to directly support\u00a0<strong>ATMEC\u2019s protection projects for Thailand\u2019s coral reef<\/strong>. This commitment will run until\u00a0<strong>October 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The goal is not only financial: the initiative also aims to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting and safeguarding these precious marine ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naturalwave: mindful cosmetics, protected seas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Founded by two underwater archaeologists, Gabriella and Cristiano,\u00a0<strong>Naturalwave<\/strong>\u00a0was born from first-hand field experience and a mission to protect the sea through everyday choices.<\/p>\n<p>Their cosmetic products, designed to be used even in seawater, are formulated without silicones, petroleum derivatives, or substances harmful to ecosystems, with more than\u00a0<strong>98% natural and organic ingredients<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Naturalwave\u2019s responsible approach has earned the company the\u00a0<strong>Friend of the Sea<\/strong>\u00a0certification, a project of the\u00a0<strong>World Sustainability Organization<\/strong>, which attests to compliance with strict environmental standards verified by independent, accredited bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Certified products also include sunscreen, particularly relevant in the context of this project.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennytravel.it\/quali-creme-solari-scegliere-per-non-uccidere-i-coralli-e-l-ecosistema-marino\">Every year, about 14,000 tons of sunscreen end up in tropical seas<\/a>, and the chemical filters they contain can interfere with marine wildlife\u2019s endocrine systems, causing rapid and severe damage to corals.<\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0<strong>\u201cEmbrace the Sun, Protect the Sea\u201d<\/strong>, Naturalwave has chosen to allocate\u00a0<strong>\u20ac1 for every product sold<\/strong>\u00a0to the conservation activities managed by\u00a0<strong>ATMEC<\/strong>, turning an everyday purchase into a concrete action for the sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roncalli Viaggi: responsible tourism for the oceans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tourism sector also plays a crucial role.\u00a0<strong>Roncalli Viaggi<\/strong>, an agency with over 25 years of experience and the first in Italy to obtain sustainable tourism certification from\u00a0<strong>WSO<\/strong>, has decided to allocate\u00a0<strong>\u20ac5 for each booking<\/strong>\u00a0directly to\u00a0<strong>ATMEC<\/strong>\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n<p>For years, Roncalli Viaggi has supported\u00a0<strong>WSF<\/strong>\u00a0environmental initiatives, such as the\u00a0<strong>\u201c1 guest 1 tree planted\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0project, which involves planting trees in Central Africa.
