Biomega AS – a leading Norwegian producer of salmon oil, salmon meal and marine peptones – has undergone chain of custody audit and has been found compliant with all Friend of the Sea criteria for products from sustainable aquaculture. The approved products, delivered as food ingredients (sports nutrition and omega 3), pet food ingredients, nutritional supplements, industrial bioactive components, and feed ingredient; can now carry the Friend of the Sea seal of approval.
The raw materials are sourced only from trimmings of approved Friend of the Sea farmed Atlantic salmons, thus optimizing use of marine resources. In the process nothing is wasted: heads, bones, fins, guts, tails, all providing the same nutritional benefits of the fillet itself. Biomega ensures that every gram of the salmon is turned into nutritional components and that no waste is generated.
The company has an efficient traceability system in place throughout the supply chain from the production sites to the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility through to the consumers product. Analytic reports on tracking and tracing are available in order to demonstrate the product respects all requirements of Friend of the Sea Chain of Custody standard.
“We are enthusiastic in being part of the Friend of the Sea project,” comments Mr. Jan Arne Vevatne, Managing Director of Biomega AS. “Friend of the Sea eco-label explains our demanding customers that our company cares about the environment and conservation”.
