This area, in the North East of Italy, now Unesco World Natural Heritage site, is the main production area in Italy, with a tradition of trout farming dating back to 1879.The longstanding aquaculture tradition in the Trentino region could represent enough evidence of sustainability of production. Italian trouts are exported mainly to Germany, Austria and Switzerland but also to a number of other internal markets.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Each single producer has been audited and all were found in conformity with all Friend of the Sea sustainable aquaculture requirements. Water parameters information is provided via computer and made available both to the single company as well as to the cooperative&#8217;s headquarter. In particular, Astro Cooperative itself monitors compliance with specific water parameters which allow the trouts to be branded as \u2018Trentino\u2019 quality. Birds entanglement and fish escapes are prevented by means of appropriate grids, with suitable size and texture. The farmed species cannot possibly reproduce in the wild and does not represent a danger for the local population. The Trentino trouts are free of GMO and hormones. Those originate from aquaculture are reared with respect of critical habitat, with no use of antifoulants, GMOS and growth hormones.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Astro \u2013 Associazione Troticoltori Trentini <\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Astro trouts live in an ideal environment for such alpine fish species. Water directly comes from Dolomites\u2019 glaciers, is fresh and rich of oxygen. Here 70 farming sites are active: 38 hectares of water ponds and fishes farmed following their natural rhythm.
