ECB Company

12 November 2018_Italian manufacturer ECB Company attains Friend of the Sea certification for fish meal sourced from tuna processing by-products and trimmings. ECB provides fishmeal to several pet food companies worldwide.

Friend of the Sea’s certification for sustainable fish feed, fish meal, fish oil and Omega-3 certifies that the fish meal originates only from approved Friend of the Sea fisheries or from trimmings and by-cuts and that a full chain of custody is in place. The complete traceability of the product is maintained throughout the supply chain from the fishing vessel to the finished product ensuring that mixing with non-certified raw materials will not occur.

ECB was founded in 1966 as a company technically and ethically devoted to the processing of fresh poultry slaughtering by-products for dry pet food. During the years, it has established itself as one of the most relevant players in the market, supplying a range of well-known pet food brands. More recently, it has decided to apply the same innovative technology which allows to recuperate 100% of fish processing bycuts.

In July 2017 ECB has been acquired by SARIA Group.  Family-owned company SARIA, headquartered in Selm, Germany, is an international manufacturer of quality goods for human consumption, animal nutrition, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry and industrial applications. The company focuses mainly on producing high-quality proteins and fats from animal by-products. SARIA is also active in renewable energies and is a significant provider of services to the agriculture and food industries. The company employs around 8,000 people at 180 locations across 19 countries.

We welcome ECB in the Friend of the Sea project as a perfect example of circular economy applied to the seafood industry” comments Paolo Bray, founder and director of Friend of the Sea “We highly encourage our certified companies to collaborate in order to develop the right technology able to make all the production process sustainable.”
